In 2010 I completed a big year in the lower 48 states, setting a record for that geographical area of 704 species seen for the year. During 2010 I did a blog called Slow Birding: the big year meets the big night. All of those blog entries are still available below, but now that the big year is finished, I will be continuing the blog calling it just Slow Birding. I will from time to time post entries about my and other's birding.

Bird Poop on My Face!
I just received an email saying that somehow I have scissor-tailed flycatcher on my list twice. There is also a comment on my last entry pointing this out (see comment #7). Therefore, my YTD may not be 701 (after review and correcting, 704), but 700 (703). I am going to go over the list very carefully, plus check my field notes, to make sure that there are no other errors. But I first have to go out to dinner. Stay tuned!
Ouch! What a blow! I found three more dupes in addition to the Scissor-tailed flycatcher.
ReplyDeleteOuch Roadrunner, you're right--American Redstart, California Gull, and Semipalmated Plover. A bit of a setback, but 700 is still in reach!
